The Department of Health (DoH) is satisfied that the discovered Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) Omicron subvariant will not pose a risk to the country.
The Department of Health said that our countrymen should not be alarmed by the Omicron subvariant BF.7 in the Philippines. But this should also be the reason for Filipinos to stay alert. DoH officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire said, BF.7 which is considered a sublineage of Omicron subvariant BA.5 shows to be more transmissible and more immune evasive based on the evidence.
But despite this, there is still no evidence that this variant can cause severe and critical infections. Vergeire also pointed out that the coronavirus will persist and will have many mutations.
That's why, he said, the public should continue the vaccination and follow the minimum public health standards. So far, four cases of Omicron subvariant BF.7 have been detected in the country. Despite this, Vergeire said that the country will not implement any kind of generalized lockdown due to this variant.
